July Meeting Notes

Hello All,

I have a new computer and lost some of the e-mails I had such as Crys and Missy. If you notice I've missed a name, please let me know so that I can forward it on to everyone who is interested.

Lesley Atkinson and Whitney Langdon were there to report on the progress of the NB program. They both work with the foundation. Whitney helps with 3rd party fund raisers and Lesley works with large corporations. Lesley said that the program will consist of clinical research, a consortium with other institutions that engage in lab research thus Cooks patients to have more treatment options, a parents group and educational support. They expect to have a firm design and timeline in the next 60 to 90 days. They've currently hired 3 research interns and they will be doing 1 study on NB.

The Stucker family (Elizabeth's family) is helping to arrange a wine auction. We will have more info on that later.

The Sankry family would be grateful for the LOVE club to help with the walk they have next year.

This is all Lesley could tell us at present. Hopefully they will be more informed at our next meeting.

Mark said that the CNCF Parent Handbook is now available on line. It is a wealth of information for parents of children with NB. Check it out at http://www.nbhope.org/ look under "Resources".

We talked about moving our meeting times to the evenings so that more people can attend the meetings. I would appreciate your feedback on that question.

Brandi has some posters for the Rodeo. Remember to attend at 10am. If you've sold any raffle tickets, please bring them that day to Brandi so they will be entered in the drawing.

Heather also shared a sheet regarding A New Year of Hope Foundation. They have several committees with openings in the following areas: Events Committee, PR, Fundraising, Volunteer Recruitment

All committees will have one chairperson and will be asked to vilunteer for one-yr. terms. volunteers can stay on any particular committee for more than one term but are only allowed two consecutive hairperson terms every two years. For more information, please e-mail Heather at heather@anewyearofhope.org

Thanks,
Karen

June Meeting Notes

Thank you to all who came to the meeting on Monday. For those who are unaware, Monday was "Bubba Day". Now if our city recognizes Bubba Day (My mom heard them mention it on the radio) why shouldn't they concede to having a World NB Day? If you are willing to write to the City Counsel asking them to declare September 27th World Neuroblastoma Day just contact Mark. He is hoping to get 25 cities to agree to it. If you are interested in this endeavor, Mark would be ecstatic!

We talked about different venues for the activities on the 27th. Raelene has looked at Southwestern Seminary and Mark is going to check at TCU. Another idea would be the Lockheed Martin Recreation facility. We would like to make it a bit of a field day/carnival. We would like to have cake walks and other carnival type games. Mark, I have a friend whose brother has a Ferris Wheel. She's going to ask if he would volunteer to use and operate it for the day.

I also wanted to let everyone know that we will have another Rootbeer float, Lemonade stand, and bakesale in Ft. Worth on 6/21 from 10am to 2pm. We need help getting sponsors to provide the lemonade, rootbeer, and baked goods. We will also need help running different stations. Ft. Worth police will be out to ID children. We'll also have a firetruck, ambulance, and maybe even a helicopter for children to tour. We would like to have some face painting, so if you have the skills for that, please let me know. If you have any other ideas, give me a call.

Try to make it to our next meeting as Leslie Atkins will be there to discuss the plans for the NB Research Clinic.

Our next meeting will be July 7 at 1pm at Mimi's Cafe. Please let me know if you're planning on coming.

JR is doing well in transplant. His actual transplant day is Friday, June 6.

Thanks for all you're doing to make a difference in the lives of children and their families.
